Welcome addresses

Dear Colleagues and Friends,

on behalf of the organizers and the Steering Committee I have the pleasure of inviting you to the International Congress „Career and Vocational Guidance in Rapidly Changing World“. This international congress is intended namely for educational advisers and school psychologists, as well as for the specialists from employment offices; also for consulting institutions and for professionals from companies and firms concerned with the career and vocational guidance for organizations in different sections. At the same time, we would like to enable the participants direct interaction with the offer of educational institutions, with production of the publishing houses as well as with producers of diagnostic and intervention tools.
This international congress is also organized at the occasion of the 90th anniversary of establishing the institutionalized vocational guidance in the then existing Czechoslovakia. We would like to present the milestones of this vocational guidance history at the international field together with documents and materials of the period. Therefore, we should appreciate not only historical contributions, but - in relation with the exhibition - also historical tests (event. apparatuses) and approaches to the diagnostics, results and recommendations from different sections, or foreign literature on career and vocational guidance.
In relation to the present time, and in cooperation with the Euroguidance Centre, we shall also present the awarded winners of particular categories of the competition aimed at the vocational guidance in the Czech Republic.
Simultaneous interpreting in English and Czech will enable in separate sections a mutually faster communication that is – together with establishing professional contacts at European as well as international level – one of the main goals of this congress.
Prague and its genius loci is becoming more and more often the place of congress meetings of professionals from all over the world, and we shall be, therefore, pleased to meet you in Prague.

Jana Zapletalová
Chair of Steering Committee and the main organizer of the congress

Dear Colleagues,

on behalf of the Scientific Committee of the International Congress on Career and Vocational Guidance I would like to get you acquainted with the general orientation of this congress. What concerns the content, it continues the prewar tradition of the career guidance centres in the then existing Czechoslovakia, as well as the following nation-wide network of pedagogical and psychological guidance centres whose establishing culminated at the end of the sixties of the last century.
Our congress is, of course, focused namely at the present and future aiming of the career and vocational guidance not only in the Czech Republic, but also within the whole Europe and in the global international context.
Apart from Plenary Sessions, the congress will proceed in four parallel sections. They are focused at the sphere of guidance in the educational system, at career and vocational guidance within the working process, at variously disadvantaged persons and groups, as well as at the field of diagnostic intervention tools and at the intersection and international cooperation in the given sphere.
What concerns special themes we shall welcome both the most recent experience e.g. from the sphere supported by the European Union (new skills for new jobs), and apart from good pratice also the blind spots or dark side of career guidance, We expect that mapping the opportunities and new challenges in the sphere of professional and career guidance will represent the main output of the congress proceedings.
I believe that the unique atmosphere of Prague as well the scientific program of the congress will create an inspiring environment for professional discussion as well as for easygoing conversation.

Stanislav Štech
